YOUTH MINISTER’S MOMENTS Why is Vacation Bible School an excellent activity for a church to sponsor? Many today feel that VBS is outdated and not needed in the church, but I would like to share ten (10) reason why I believe VBS is still a very positive activity for both young and old. It is a revival for young people. We have Revivals for the adults and believe that they are very important events. Well, VBS is a Revival for our youth. It gets them excited about God, Jesus, the Bible, the Church, Evangelism, etc. It helps to teach evangelism to our youth as they invite their friends to come and share in all that VBS has to offer. It helps to teach giving to others in the mission field that need our support to keep sharing the gospel with those lost and outside of Christ. It provides opportunities for our youth to share their gifts, abilities and talents as assistant teachers, craft assistants, recreation assistants, puppeteers, helping in skits and decorations, serving as offering takers, singing as a group at the closing program, etc. It helps to provide opportunities for our adults to share their gifts, abilities and talents as teachers, craft leaders, puppet director and skit director, recreation director, refreshment director and helpers, secretary, song leader, mission leader, transportation of their kids, finances for missions, etc. Youth who register for VBS and participate become prospects who may then come to other services and activities and hopefully become a Christian. The closing program gets parents, friends, and grandparents into the building who may not be Christians yet, thus providing prospects for the church and an opportunity to plant seeds of the gospel into their heart and mind. It provides an excellent opportunity for our youth to make new friends and grow socially and spiritually. It provides an excellent opportunity for our youth to learn more about Jesus and come to that point in their life when they obey the gospel of Christ. It teaches the importance of gathering with those of like precious faith to study God’s Word and fellowship together. Also, it is more intense because it is a full week, 2 hours a day.
As you can see with these 10 reasons VBS is a very important program of the church. Hopefully, everyone will take advantage of this quickly approaching opportunity and invite as many friends and neighbors as possible. If your children are not registered please do it as soon as possible for our craft leaders, teachers and kitchen crew. Also, if you want to help in some way please let me know.
